The Los Angeles launch of China's Great Leap was hosted by Sid Sheinberg (Vice Chair of Human Rights Watch's Board and Co-Chair, California Committee South) and Lorraine Sheinberg (Executive Committee member, California Committee South).

Minky Worden interviewed Wang Dan, former student leader of the Tiananmen democracy movement and contributor of a chapter to China's Great Leap. Both took questions, and several guests including writer Xu Xing joined the ensuing discussion.
