The official publication date of China's Great Leap was 5/8/08, exactly three months before the opening ceremony of the Beijing Games on 8/8/08. The New York Committee of Human Rights Watch organized and co-hosted the book launch party at the home of Minky Worden and Gordon Crovitz. Carroll Bogert, Associate Director of Human Rights Watch and a former reporter for Newsweek in China, made a brief speech in the presence of publisher Dan Simon and other members of the Seven Stories Press staff. Book contributors Scott Greathead, Emily Parker and Mickey Spiegel, as well as Tong Yi (translator of Liu Xiaobo's chapter), attended this festive event.
